Digital Fluency

Technology has increased drastically in recent years. We are constantly surrounded by technology that it is important to understand how to use digital technology. Being digitally fluent is now a necessity for teachers because of the increase of technology in classrooms. It is important to show and teach students that you are able to use computers easily and use it as a resource to teach in classrooms. This is what was explored in class. Howell (2012) suggests that these skills and knowledge are becoming increasingly urgent for student.

Before the workshop we were required to read an article from The Guardian “Getting young people fluent in digital”. This article revolved around how it is essential for children in the UK to become digitally fluent, as it can help small businesses in the future. The article highlights the importance of being digitally fluent in this day and age and how there can be a major negative effect on children who are not digitally fluent and the effect it may have on their future.

As a teacher I have to ensure that I am able to fluently use digital resources. In order to do this I should be able to use different platforms to assist me in teaching the students. Pinterest is a great example of this as it can be visually appealing for the children and can help them understand the information in a more interesting way. Below is an example of a Pinterest board which may be used in a classroom.
